On the 28th of April, several young local artists and musicians made their way down to M Bar on Ariapita Avenue to showcase their talent and support the headlining artist of the night, Jivanna.
Jivanna invited a group of friends and fellow artists to help her raise funds for the production of her first official project, an EP. Performances included spoken word, rap, stand up and of course, singing accompanied by live instruments.
The first artist to take the stage was spoken word poet, Majeed Karim, who read one of his own pieces for the patrons at the event. Following Majeed, Jon Willing graced the stage to share with the crowd two original songs entitled War and Don’t Fret. Both songs embracing R&B elements with an upbeat, modern twist.
Up next on the stage was Whitney Cummings. She performed her own song entitled Dreaming Of Your Love and also covered Best Part, a song by Canadian artist, Daniel Caesar featuring H.E.R.
Afterwards, Daniel Griffith came on to perform two covers, Titanium (by David Guetta ft. Sia) and When We Were Young (by Adele). Both Whitney and Daniel didn’t take long to really show the crowd why they were chosen to perform on stage for the night’s event.
Switching things up for a little bit, Gervail “Jr. Lee” Lemo, a young local stand up, did a short selection of some of his jokes just to lighten up the mood and give the crowd a different reason to smile and a couple laughs. Shortly after his performance, Braveboy (formerly known as Mark Hardy) and Yung Rudd came on stage and performed several of their well known songs such as Wuz D Scene, Pumpin’ and Taxes all performed acapella. John John, Jivanna’s manager graced the stage next, to perform his electrifying cover of Daniel Caesar’s Get You.
Young local rapper, Inzey performed next. He shared with the crowed his original songs Kiddo and Gangsta. At the end of the performance he told the crowd that they should take every opportunity that they get to support young artists the way they were tonight. Finally, the highlight of the night, Jivanna! The headlining artiste of the night’s event graced the stage, thanked everyone for coming and got right into her performance. She performed several songs that will be on her EP (to be released later this year – around November she hinted) such as Pot & Kettle, My Demise, Being Real, Who Are You? (ft. Majeed Karim) and At The Door. Her performance was nothing short of thrilling and enchanting. The crowd was simply silenced the moment she opened her lips to sing and taken into a trance until it was time for them to applaud her. Jivanna Live was excellent!
Always, thank you very much for reading!
